September was a big month for RISE TOGETHER. From celebrating our 12th anniversary to speaking at statewide conferences, hosting a free community event with ORN, and announcing our Executive Director’s upcoming book, this month reminded us what’s possible when youth, families, and partners come together for change.
RISE 12: 12 Years of Impact
On September 12, we gathered at Gibson Community Music Hall in Appleton for our annual anniversary celebration. This wasn’t just a milestone — it was a moment to honor the voices, stories, and support that have carried our mission forward for over a decade. Seeing students, parents, educators, and community members fill the room reminded us why we do this work: because every story matters, and together we save lives. We can’t thank our community partners and sponsors for all of their support to make this work possible.

Youth Voice in Action
Throughout the month, our team delivered speaking engagements across Wisconsin, engaging with thousands of students and staff. These conversations on mental health, substance use, and resilience are sparking change in schools and inspiring young people to step forward as leaders in their own communities.
We also had the honor of sharing our message at two statewide conferences, reaching leaders, advocates, and professionals committed to building healthier communities.
Community Awareness & Partnership
Together with the Opioid Response Network (ORN), we hosted a free community awareness event, creating space for important conversations on addiction, recovery, and prevention. Events like these highlight the power of partnership and collective action to bring life-saving resources directly into communities.

We couldn’t do this work without the many organizations who stand with us. From local businesses and sponsors who showed up at RISE 12, to schools and community groups who opened their doors for our programs, your commitment fuels this movement. Special thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered, or simply showed up — you are the reason we keep moving forward.
A Big Announcement
This month also marked a personal milestone for our Executive Director, Nadine Machkovech, who announced and launched her ebook, The Secret Wasn’t Enough. Rooted in storytelling and healing, her paperback book will be released in December and continues the work of inspiring self-worth and sparking change through the power of voice.

Looking Ahead: October & Beyond
September laid a strong foundation, and October is shaping up to be just as impactful. This month we’ll be in Seymour Schools, Ripon District, and launching the Fall Cohort for the RISEconnection training, along with continued work in prevention and advocacy. We’re also excited to expand our WI Wins tobacco prevention programming in Brown and Shawano Counties and strengthen our outreach across Wisconsin.
A Final Reflection
As we close out September, we’re reminded that the small moments matter most — the hugs at RISE 12, the student who said “thank you” after sharing their story, the partners who continue to stand with us, and the excitement of sharing what’s next.
Here’s to carrying that energy into the months ahead. Together, we rise.
